The health authorities of district d’Al-Waziyahin the southwest of Yemen, announced an outbreak of diphtheria. To date, four children have been infected, two of whom have died and the other two are still being treated in hospital.
The media officer at the Public Health and Population Bureau of Taiz governoratesaid the outbreak was caused by parents’ failure to vaccinate their children against childhood illnesses, including diphtheria, which has been linked to rumors and misleading information regarding vaccines.
