Ukraine has called for an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council to counter the “nuclear blackmail” of Russia, after the announcement by Vladimir Putin that Moscow would deploy nuclear weapons in Belarus.
The European Union has threatened Minsk with new sanctions if this deployment is carried out, while the United States has indicated that it has no “no indication” that Moscow intended to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine.
“Ukraine expects effective actions to counter Kremlin nuclear blackmail from UK, China, US and France“as permanent members of the UN Security Council,” the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
