Disappearance of Nicolas Raymond: excavations in Quebec canceled after new information

The search that was initiated in Quebec Thursday morning to find a 34-year-old man who has been missing for two days has been canceled after receiving information that he is in Lac-Saint-Jean.

Nicolas Raymond was last seen leaving a friend’s residence on 24th Street in Limoilou on the morning of May 31. A first search notice was launched in the evening of the same day.

He would travel on foot or by bus from the Réseau de transport de la Capitale and could frequent certain bars in the Saint-Sauveur district, then indicated the Service de police de la Ville de Québec (SPVQ).

“The information gathered by investigation shows a danger to his life if he is not located quickly,” says David Poitras, spokesperson for the SPVQ.

Two research sites

The search and rescue unit of the police force, as well as several volunteers, put their hands in the dough Thursday morning to try to find the 34-year-old man.

A first team was deployed near the Domaine de Maizerets, while a second went to the Parc de la Rivière-Beauport.

“It is the proximity of the last place where he was seen, and the fact that he moves on foot, which leads us to believe that he could be in one of these places”, explained David Poitras, in morning.

“Rivers, forests or paths… We will do exhaustive research in every corner, nothing will be left to chance,” he added.

Excavations canceled

A little later in the morning, information received by the Quebec police suggested that the individual could be at Lac Saint-Jean, in the Métabetchouan—Lac-à-la-Croix sector.

After several checks, the SPVQ finally made the decision to cancel the excavations in the Old Capital. The chances that the man is still there are rather low, it is said.

Quebec police investigators remain responsible for the file, but the Sûreté du Québec has been requested to assist in locating the man on their territory.
