Discover the Colorful Giant Ducks at Vismet Basins in Brussels

The Vismet basins have seen five colorful giant ducks settle in over the past few days. Located opposite the Sainte-Catherine church, these new artistic installations were inaugurated on Monday by the City of Brussels and will be visible until next September. Family activities will also take place every first Sunday of the month to brighten up life in the neighborhood.

Placed in the larger of the two pools, these five 3D mineral fiber ducks will be backlit by solar lamps. From 1m60 to 2m50 high, they will take on a yellow-orange color in the evening thanks to a powder-coating technique. In the “small pool”, giant multi-colored letters (upcycled from a previous event), bordered by water lilies, form the acronym “BXL”.

A program for families

Family activities will also be held every first Sunday of the month, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Between workshops for children, puzzle fishing or duck fishing, remote-controlled boats, onboard stories or even pedal boats for children: “there will be something for everyone,” promises the City.

“This project is part of a desire to promote shopping districts, while respecting the peace and quiet of local residents,” explained the Alderman for Economic Affairs at the City of Brussels, Fabian Maingain. “It’s a great opportunity to discover this historic landmark in the city center in a fun way, with friends or family, while taking advantage of the offer of Horeca establishments and other shops in the surrounding area,” he concluded. .

To mark the occasion during the inauguration, performances – ranging from singing to tightrope walking – were held in the Vismet pools, under the amazed eyes of passers-by who came to watch the show.
