Uneven terrain, away from major communication routes, sparsely populated: despite these obstacles, the Cheylard region, in Northern Ardèche, remains the second center of economic activity in the department. A strength that the Arche des Métiers highlights.
Tannery, milling, design and manufacture of various technical textiles, invention of machines for industry, development and making of jewelry, exploitation of mineral waters… Ardèche in general, and the Eyrieux valley in particular have numerous economic, technical, artistic, gastronomic and scientific assets. The presence of numerous rivers, in quantity and quality, was the reason why different activities developed in the department. A natural resource which is coupled with know-how which is still the pride of the region today. An economic history, still in progress, that promotes the Ark of Trades du Cheylard.
