We have been talking for a while in Nivelles about the new hospital, which will be built on land acquired by the Helora University Hospital Center at Portes de l’Europe (Nivelles North). But while waiting for this important investment to materialize, the current hospital continues to operate and even regularly develops new services on its “historic” site on rue de la Samiette.
The general public is invited to see it this Saturday afternoon, since an open day is organized there from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. “Step into the shoes of healthcare players and understand the exciting professions hidden behind our walls,” invite the managers of the Jolimont Group, to which the Nivelles hospital belongs.
The idea is to allow real immersion in the services, and several of them will offer activities for visitors. For example, they will be able to receive explanations on the care of diabetic patients and the risk factors for this disease. Diabetes screenings will also be offered on site. In the obesity surgery department, you can discover a laparoscopic surgery simulator.
Going through the emergency room will allow you to better understand the organization of the service, and the principles of sorting patients, for example. Visitors will be able to familiarize themselves with resuscitation procedures, see how casts are applied or how wounds are stitched up. In pediatrics, demonstrations of airway clearance are planned.
On the revalidation side, we can for example test our balance or an aging simulator. There will also be patient testimonials and explanations on the links between revalidation and dietetics.
In the middle of the “Pink October” campaign, the radiology department will obviously be mobilized to explain the importance of mammography. A “pink ribbon” stand will await participants in the oncology wing, and we will also talk about breast cancer screening and prevention. The opportunity, moreover, to discover the Espace Pô Zen which will benefit from the money generated by the “Pink October” events set up this month in Nivelles.
There will even be a point on cleaning in hospitals, and the dynamics of construction of the new hospitals of the Jolimont Group will also be explained on site.
