The outfits of the 800 athletes of the French Olympic and Paralympic team will be revealed this Tuesday evening at 8 p.m. But the Radio France sports department was able to discover the outfits that our French athletes will wear next summer in Paris. Report from the heart of the factory Le Coq Sportif in Romilly-sur-Seine, in Aube, where they are made in the greatest secrecy.
Bent over her machine, Marguerite manipulates a square of fabric on which the word “France” is written. “I’m in the process of assembling the t-shirts”, she explains. Ewa Samson, the development manager, controls. “It’s all over”, she comments. She admires with pride an ecru color collectionwhich the athletes will wear to the village. “We transformed a jogging material into an elegant, dressy product”she describes.
A symbolic flag
A common logo is found on each outfit: a rooster on a blue, white, red background, but for the first time with a gradient effect : “We transform the French flag into something that blends”describes Ewa Samson, who explains the symbol: “The flag is for everyone, for those who have white skin, dark skin. We are all together, a family.”
In addition to these outfits, the real novelty for the brand is the manufacturing of competition outfits. Célia is working, for example, on a gymnastics leotard: there is “blue, white, red stripes running all over the leotard”with “rhinestones placed all along by hand“, she describes.
Last week, Ewa Samson validated tank tops for climbing. The challenge : “The product must above all not be in the way, it must be as light as possible and at the same time not stick to the wall”. Far from the “simple tank top”: “each discipline needs specific knowledge”.
In total, these are 54 federations that collaborate with Le Coq Sportif and the brand gains years of expertise, welcomes its general director David Pecard: “I don’t believe that the three biggest brands in the world make all sports products. We will be the only ones”.
In all, 1,060 models will be made in this factory, for 1.3 million copies. Only these technical outfits will not be entirely manufactured in France, certain phases are processed in Morocco or Portugal.
