The mayor of Vresse-sur-Semois, Arnaud Allard, would almost jump for joy. Its small town (in number of inhabitants, not in surface area) has been chosen by the Walloon government to make it one of the three “nature” sites dedicated to mountain biking, along with Liège and Vielsalm. In the jargon, this is called a “MTB trail center”, and to create it, one million euros falls into the municipal purse. It’s not nothing.

What are we talking about exactly? The creation of courses for mountain bikes specific to this sport, unlike the RAVeLs which are versatile. In Vresse, we will trace tracks in the woods, it is all the originality. “Single tracks”, narrow traces integrated into nature, to blend in with it. With signs, but also facilities, such as footbridges where necessary. A significant bonus for this corner of the Namur Ardennes, which within a year and a half will offer 92 km of loops, throughout its territory, including that farthest from the very busy Semois.

A reception center in Bohan

Dozens of kilometers for trail biking, in the heart of the Semois natural park, which was already a carrier label, there is something to celebrate. But the recent creation of this park is not at the origin of this subsidy, underlines the mayor. Vresse obtains it for having entered a file within the framework of the European recovery plan. And it’s bingo. The amount is very large.

Vresse will become a “spot” for well-equipped mountain bikers: the old refreshment bar and changing rooms of Bohan football (a club that no longer exists) will serve as a reception center for fans of this sport.

In total, 30 tracks will be laid out in Vresse. According to the Minister of Tourism Valérie De Bue (MR) in the press release announcing the good news, this is a promising investment in terms of economic recovery: “The creation of trail centers increases the tourist attractiveness of Wallonia and makes it possible to satisfy new audiences. The trail centers, thanks to their location but also to their diversified offer, aim in particular to attract tourists and generate overnight stays. They also participate in the development of local businesses and strengthen the positioning of Wallonia in terms of sports tourism”.

In Vresse, a town where one of the only riches is tourism, this adds to other good news: in addition to the creation of the Semois natural park, the Jambon viewpoint will be developed,
