“This Grande Dérive is a bit of an inverted mirror of the Boucle Noire. If the Boucle Noire is 22 kilometers long and plunges into the heart of the steel industry, the Grande Dérive will rather go towards the woods, paths, follow waterways, cross very diverse districts. There is all that in Charleroi”. Micheline Dufert sets the scene. She and her husband, Francis Pourcel, are in love with trails, hikes and Charleroi. After their first hike (the Black Loop) which was and still is a success with Carolos (but not only), the couple wanted to go further and created the Grande Dérive. “This new 54-kilometre hike was born out of explorations that gave rise to exploratory walks, in collaboration with Eden, the Cultural Center. Every weekend, during and after confinement, around a hundred people discovered new landscapes. So we wanted to bring something else and it’s the Great Drift”explains Micheline Dufert.
