Jerusalem: Archaeologists in Jerusalem have discovered the stone steps of the pool of Siloha, where Jesus Christ gave sight to a blind man two thousand years ago. The steps of this pool, which had been hidden in history until now, were discovered during the joint excavations conducted by the Israel Antiquities Authority, the Israel National Parks Authority, and the City of David Foundation.

The Israeli government has announced that the Pool of Siloah, considered a holy site by both Christians and Jews, will soon be opened to the public. Zeev Orenstein, director of international affairs for the City of David Foundation, told Fox News that the excavations in the historic City of David in Jerusalem, particularly the Pool of Siloah and the Pilgrimage Route, are a confirmation of the ancient heritage of Christians and Jews and the enduring connection of both communities to Jerusalem.

According to the Biblical Archeology Society, the Pool of Siloah was built during the reign of King Hezekiah in the 8th century BC. A 1,750-foot tunnel was built below the City of David to bring water from the Gihon Spring to this pool. It is assumed that after the construction work that took place in several stages, the place was transformed into a large pond spread over about 1.25 acres.

In the Gospel of St. John, Jesus smears mud on the eyes of a man born blind and instructs him to go and wash in the Pool of Siloam. He later recovers. Ziv Orenstein added that the discovery of this historic site in a way that anyone can touch and walk through is of great importance in this era of questioning the tradition of the Holy Scriptures.
