Dismissal of Commander Aly: “We are going to attack the decision for excess of power” (Me Bérété)

The removal of Commander Aly Camara, former number 2 of the Special Forces, from the Guinean army for “misconduct”, continues to fuel Guinean news.

Questioned in the Mirador program this Saturday, October 7, 2023, Maître Sidiki Bérété, lawyer for Commander Aly Camara, affirms that he will go to the Supreme Court to obtain the annulment of the decision. According to him, his client cannot be struck off for a criminal offense of theft when he has not been tried and found guilty of the facts.

“The problem cannot be written off. This is the extreme disciplinary sanction. He is accused of the criminal offense of theft so that we can judge him. If after an adversarial debate during a fair trial before the military court he is found guilty, that may be enough, like any other disciplinary sanction, but not disbarment. I wonder Commander Alya was struck off for misconduct when the prevention was for theft, now we’re talking about misconduct. What misconduct? He must be subject to a fair trial before any disciplinary action. This is regrettable and it is not normal. This is why we will challenge the decision before the administrative chamber of the Supreme Court for abuse of power,” he said.

Maître Sidiki Bérété regrets that his client suffers “from injustice and the people watch and no one reacts. We filed a complaint for kidnapping and kidnapping because he was illegally detained.”

Commander Aly Camara had been arrested for theft and is believed to be detained in a location unknown to his lawyer. It is in this circumstance that he was removed on Thursday October 5, 2023, through a decree, from the ranks of the Guinean army.
