Disney Star extends run with ICCs India media rights for 4 more years

New Delhi: Star Sports has acquired the broadcasting rights of ICC tournaments for the next four years. With this, Star Sports owns the broadcast rights of Men’s and Women’s ODI World Cup, T20 World Cup and Champions Trophy tournaments for four years from 2023 to 2027.

Star Sports’ move comes following it acquired the IPL broadcasting rights for the next five years. It is not clear how much Star Sports acquired the broadcasting rights.

Star Sports faced tough competition from Viacom 18, Zee TV and Sony. Last time, ICC acquired the media rights of Star Sports for two billion US dollars. Apart from the television broadcasting rights, Star Sports also owns the digital broadcasting rights.

Live streaming of matches will be through Hot Star under Star. In the IPL broadcasting rights auction held in June, Star India has acquired the television rights for the next five years for Rs 23,575 crore.
