Djokovic advances to the round of 16 –

by Alexandra Hartman Editor-in-Chief

In his second Shanghai Masters 1000 appearance, the world’s fourth-ranked player, Novak Djokovic, easily overcame Italian Flavio Cobolli in a swift two-set victory, 6-1, 6-2, propelling him closer to his 100th career title.

The Serbian tennis star finished the contest with a powerful forehand winner, leaving the globally 28th-ranked Cobolli powerless after a demanding serve.

Djokovic, a four-time Shanghai champion, will next face Russian Roman Safiullin in the round of 16.

Safiullin, currently ranked 61st, produced an upset by defeating American Frances Tiafoe in a captivating three-set match, 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 (5).

Zverev Achieves Victory

Germany’s Alexander Zverev, the world number three, clinched a hard-fought win over Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor, emerging victorious in a thrilling three-set encounter, 7-6 (6), 2-6, 7-6 (5), to advance to the last 16 of the Masters 1000 event.

The initial set was a fiercely contested battle, extending beyond an hour and culminating in a fiercely celebrated tie-break win for Zverev.

The German, however, suffered a considerable downturn in the second set, losing three straight service games to fall behind 5-0 within a mere half hour.

The final set saw a return to equilibrium, marked by exceptional rallies. Despite holding seven match points, Zverev’s inability to capitalize forced a decisive tie-break against the 40th-ranked Griekspoor.

Zverev’s upcoming opponent in the round of 16 will be Belgium’s David Goffin, who staged a remarkable comeback against American Marcos Giron, winning 1-6, 6-3, 7-5.

Carlos Alcaraz’s next match will be against veteran Gael Monfils.
