Djokovic withdraws from training three days before US Open

Novak Djokovic has set off alarm bells at the US Open, the latest Grand Slam on the court, which begins on Monday 26 August at the Flushing Meadows course.

Djokovic, who has not played an official match since he climbed to the top of the podium at the Paris Olympics on Sunday 4 August at the expense of Carlos Alcaraz, was forced to stop his preparation session this Friday with the Dane Holger Runas.

The 37-year-old Belgrade tennis player did not show up at the Arthur Ashe venue, where Rune waited unsuccessfully for him for half an hour to continue the training session between the two that had begun on one of the courts attached to the Billie Jean King Tennis Center.

Without the famous knee pad

Djokovic was able to see himself last Wednesday in the tournament he won with John McEnroe, with Alcaraz and Andre Agassi as opponents, without the knee brace that has been with him since he underwent surgery on the meniscus of his right knee on June 5. He withdrew from the quarterfinals of Roland Garros.

It is worth remembering that the 2023 edition of the US Open is the last major title featuring the best tennis players in history.
