Does Groundhog Day Really Exist?

AN ENDLESS DAY FILM. Does the party in honor of marmots, which serves as the setting for the comedy with Bill Murray, really exist in the United States?

[Mis à jour le 18 février 2022 à 20h45] In an endless day Bill Murray reliving the same 24 hours over and over again. And not just any: that of the Marmot festival, also called Groundhog Day in the United States. If this tradition detailed in the comedy film by Harold Ramis may seem surprising, it is however inspired by a real event. Groundhog Day is indeed celebrated in the United States and Canada, and more specifically in Punxsutawney, on February 2.

As can be seen in an endless day, several traditions are honored during this singular festival. The highlight is watching the groundhog enter its burrow. According to its behavior, the legend says that winter will last more or less. If the film with Bill Murray democratizes this singular tradition, the shooting did not take place in Punxsutawney. It is in Woodstock, in the State of Illinois, that the cameras of Harold Ramis were posed to immortalize several scenes which have now become cults.

Synopsis – Phil Connors, television weather presenter, is the victim of a spell and is condemned to relive the same day indefinitely, that of February 2, the day of the Groundhog Day.
