Does the Penis Really Shrink with Age? Learn the Truth from Experts

14.52 centimeters: This is how big the average penis in Germany is supposed to be – but not for a lifetime. Because the penis is said to shrink with age. But: is that right?

TikTok doctor spreads unpleasant truth

At least one person is sure that this is the case: urologist Dr. Edward Zimmerman of Las Vegas. His TikTok account with the evocative name “dickdocontiktok” (“Penis Doctor on TikTok”) is followed by over 2.4 million people. There he explains everything a man needs to know about his best piece. Regular topic: size.

And that’s exactly where the urologist caused a stir on the social media platform with a statement: “Penis shrink with age, just like the volume of the face or neck decreases.” Rumms! But is there something to it?

Penis doesn’t shrink automatically, but…

Yes indeed. Although there are few studies on this topic, many urologists agree on this point. However: There is no age at which the penis automatically begins to shrink from year to year.

However, numerous side effects of aging can lead to progressive loss of size. Experts speak of up to two centimeters.

The good news first: you can do something about it. But first, let’s talk about the reasons for penis shrinkage.

These are the reasons for penis shrinkage

With a Click on the arrow you will see a short explanation.

Testosteron-Mangel

The male sex hormone testosterone is produced in the testicles and is largely responsible for the development of the male sexual organs. But production peaks in the mid-20s and gradually declines thereafter.

Consequences of testosterone deficiency can be erection problems and listlessness. And: If less testosterone is produced, not only the testicles but also the penis can lose some size.

Age-related diseases

This is where everything plays arteriosclerosis a role. This is a common vascular disease in which arteries harden and narrow. To put it simply: the blood vessels become clogged. In the case of the penis, this can lead to less blood reaching the erectile tissue when aroused. It no longer reaches its actual volume and becomes thinner.

Also the Peyronie’s disease is one of the age-related diseases that can result in penis shortening. Due to inflammation, scar tissue forms in the erectile tissue. This is less elastic and cannot enlarge during an erection. The result: The penis becomes curved and appears shorter.

Stiff connective tissue

No, stiffness does not have an enlarging effect in this case. With increasing age, the elasticity of the connective tissue becomes worse. The penis is also affected.

If the erectile tissue is less able to stretch, the length of the penis when erect becomes shorter. In the worst case, the disease can lead to fibrosis, a stiffening of the erectile tissue.

Sexual activity decreases

It certainly doesn’t apply to everyone, but it does apply to some people: sexual activity decreases with age. But the less the penis is used, the less blood gets there.

According to doctors, this leads to fewer sex hormones being produced – and the penis losing size due to lower testosterone production.

Weight gain

As you get older, it becomes increasingly difficult to get rid of extra pounds. Weight gain and more fatty tissue can cause the visible part of the penis to become smaller.

It is covered up and no longer looks as magnificent as it did in leaner times. This phenomenon is known as “buried penis”.

You can prevent that

Anyone who believes that a man is mercilessly at the mercy of his fate is thinking too short-sightedly. Some risk factors can be easily minimized.

“Is this true?”

Here you will find even more strange claims and everyday myths in the check. Sometimes they are true, sometimes they are pure nonsense.

The simplest tip from TikTok urologist Zimmerman is: “Use it or lose it.” So: use it, and often. Whether during masturbation, foreplay or sexual intercourse: when blood enters the penis, the production of sex hormones is stimulated. This counteracts the testosterone deficiency and ultimately also the shrinking penis.

Regular exercise can also help you maintain your size for as long as possible. On the one hand, sport also drives testosterone production. On the other hand, the calories burned declare war on excess body fat – the “buried penis” is shoveled free again.
