Dog Rescued in Los Angeles River – NBC Phoenix/Tucson

Authorities managed to rescue a dog from the Los Angeles River in the San Fernando Valley following a morning of rain.

Units from the Los Angeles Fire Department set up multiple rescue points along the Los Angeles River to recover a woman and her dog in the water near the Sepulveda Dam. The woman was rescued, but crews are still trying to rescue the dog.

A Los Angeles Fire Department rescuer was lowered into the water from a helicopter, but the dog broke free of the rescuer’s grasp.

In Studio City, a man jumped into the water and grabbed the dog as they floated down the river. He lost his grip on the dog when an LAFD helicopter rescue team pulled him out of the water.

The dog did not appear to be in deep water as he walked with the current. Firefighters said the water was moving at an estimated speed of 5 to 10 mph.

It was not immediately clear if the woman and man were injured. Details regarding how they ended up in the river were not immediately available.
