Dolmen Climb: A New Climbing Hub Opens in Trapani
The province of Trapani, known for its sunny walls and world-renowned climbing routes, welcomes a new indoor climbing gym, Dolmen Climb. The groundbreaking facility, the first of its kind in the area, will officially open its doors to the public on December 8th, 2024, with an exciting open day.
Filling a Void in the Climbing Community
Dolmen Climb is the brainchild of the Scorace Climbing Team association, a dedicated group that has been actively promoting climbing in the region for years. They recognized a clear need within the community: a dedicated space for both experienced climbers and newcomers to train and connect. Areas like Scorace and San Vito have become international climbing hotspots, attracting top climbers from around the globe, including renowned names like Ondra, Moroni, and Iagnemma.
“Aggregation will be our strong point,” explains David Catalano, founder of Dolmen Climb, alongside Maria Grazia Tedesco and Dario Mantella. “The project really wants to bring young people together, it wants to bring bouldering and climbing to this area, which has always attracted attention but has never been able to take the reins personally. We noticed that there is a need to create a place to train local young people, who until now have limited themselves to observing climbers arriving from outside.”
Training the Next Generation
Dolmen Climb aims to be more than just a climbing gym. The founders envision it as a training ground for future generations of ethical and responsible climbers. They believe it’s crucial to go beyond the physical aspects of the sport and address the ethical complexities that arise within the climbing world.
“We want to build a community that is not only passionate about climbing but also cares about the environment, respects local traditions, and promotes inclusivity within the sport,” adds Catalano.

Despite numerous challenges along the way, the team persevered, driven by their passion for climbing and their desire to contribute to the community. The open day on December 8th is a testament to their dedication and a celebration of this new chapter for climbing in Trapani.

**Alex Reed:** Well, Trapani is famous for its incredible outdoor climbing, but we noticed a lack of dedicated indoor spaces for climbers to train and connect year-round. **Alex Reed:** We’re offering a variety of climbing surfaces and routes suitable for all levels, from beginners to experienced climbers. We’ll also have workshops, classes, and community events to foster a vibrant climbing culture in the region.
