domestic policy: Nehammer can be elected ÖVP party leader

Nehammer was recently confronted with resignations in his government team shortly before the party congress, but also with a party finance affair of the Vorarlberg ÖVP – as if bad poll numbers, criticism of his trip to Russian President Vladimir Putin and the affair regarding drunken Cobra bodyguards in the environment of the chancellor family not already provided enough negative headlines.

In the run-up to the new chairman, his predecessor Sebastian Kurz stole the show a bit – he will be present at the party conference in the Helmut-List-Halle in Graz and will also have his say on stage as part of an “interview”. Kurz recently ruled out a political comeback “forever”. Against Kurz is determined, among other things, in the advertisement affair. Kurz’ adversary Reinhold Mitterlehner refrains from seeing him once more in the party circle.
