Dominic Thiem mastered his opening match at the ATP tournament in Munich without any problems. Austria’s tennis star led 6-3 against Constant Lestienne when the Frenchman retired due to injury. In the round of 16 he meets Marc-Andrea Hüsler on Thursday.

Tennis professional Dominic Thiem benefited from the surprising surrender of his French opponent Constant Lestienne in the first round of the Munich clay court tournament on Tuesday with a score of 6: 3.0: 0. In the round of 16 of the ATP 250 event, Thiem will meet Marc-Andrea Hüsler for the first time on Thursday. The number eight seeded Swiss held his own against Kyle Edmund (GBR). The 26-year-old Hüsler is currently 63rd in the world rankings, almost 40 positions ahead of Thiem.

Against Lestienne, who was three places better, Thiem only had to contest one set in late winter conditions. Thiem was also amazed, but was happy to have made progress in cold conditions. “I’m very happy to be in the second round. It was a surprising ending, not the way I would like it to be, but it’s ok to continue to the next match,” explained Thiem.
