Tenor Jonas Kaufmann was honored as Singer of the Year in 2022 with an Opus Klassik. The 53-year-old was honored for the album “Liszt – Joyful and Suffering”. The title of Singer of the Year went to the French-Italian mezzo-soprano Lea Desandre for “Amazone”. Conductor of the Year was Vladimir Jurowski from the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin for “Strauss: Eine Alpensinfonie”. The Viennese double bass player Dominik Wagner was named young artist of the year, the German harpist Magdalena Hoffman best young artist. Singer Christian Gerhaher won his category with a Schumann song album. The best opera recording was the Vienna Philharmonic’s “Così fan tutte” with conductor Joana Mallwitz.
Among the prizewinners in 2022 is pianist Igor Levit, who was honored for his album “On DSCH”. The Kammerakademie Potsdam under Antonello Manacorda was honored as Orchestra of the Year. Composer of the year this time is Pēteris Vasks. Among others, US musician Moby (“Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?”) was honored for his album “Reprise” in the “Classic Without Borders” category.
