“Don Carlo”: Opera Benefit Performance for Rotary Club Klosterneuburg in 2023 with International Cast

2023-06-10 17:00:00

The Rotary Club Klosterneuburg and the operklosterneuburg have been pursuing a common vision since 2007: they want to help people in need quickly and unbureaucratically. Every summer, the ensemble of the opera put on an exclusive special performance for the benefit of the Rotary Club of Klosterneuburg and its sponsored projects. Over the years, well over EUR 100,000 has been collected in this way and invested in selected projects. A close relationship developed between the local Rotary Club and the ensemble and its management, especially with artistic director Michael Garschall and the musical director and conductor Christoph Campestrini.

In 2023, the opera “Don Carlo” by Giuseppe Verdi is on the program in the Kaiserhof of Klosterneuburg Abbey. The Rotary benefit performance will be on July 11, 2023 at 8:00 p.m. Ticket sales are already in full swing and the best categories in particular are in high demand. Secure your tickets quickly for this wonderful evening of opera.

operklosterneuburg 2023 – the production

Director Michael Garschall worked for three years on the realization of his dream production, which will mark the 25th opera production of his directorship. Garschall enthuses: “I’ve been dreaming of a DON CARLO in the Kaiserhof of Klosterneuburg Abbey for 25 years. This year this vision becomes reality, and with a sensational cast! It will be an anniversary production with star brilliance!”

The international world star Günther Groissböck will shape the production in a double function, both as a director and as “Philipp II”.

Günther Groissböck last sang this role at the New York Metropolitan Opera, to much acclaim.

The rest of the cast is also top-class: Arthur Espiritu makes his debut in the title role of “Don Carlo”, Margarita Gritskova can be experienced for the first time as “Princess Eboli”, Thomas Weinhappel makes his role debut as “Marquis von Posa”. Karina Flores, celebrated Leonora/ La Forza 2021, returns as “Elisabeth” to the Imperial Court. The role of the “Grand Inquisitor” is sung by Matheus França.

Christoph Campestrini conducts the great Beethoven Philharmonic in the tried and tested manner, Hans Kudlich is once again responsible for the impressive stage design, and Andrea Hölzl designs the unique costume creations.

Klosterneuburg and the Rotarians are looking forward to “Don Carlo” – the opera highlight of the Lower Austrian cultural summer. A star-studded anniversary production – absolutely worth seeing and hearing!

RC Klosterneuburg President Reinhard Eder: “Operklosterneuburg and RC Klosterneuburg have been able to achieve so much joy and positive things together over the years. This great friendship is proof that together you can really create sustainable improvements.”

Michael Garschall, director of the opera monastery in Neuburg; “As a Rotarian and cultural worker, it fills me with great joy and pride that these two institutions, which do so much good for Klosterneuburg and the region, are once again impressively demonstrating their partnership this year.”
