Donation of 40 million euros for the National Archaeological Museum 2024-04-18 18:54:34

Yesterday, a donation contract was signed between the Ministry of Culture and the National Archaeological Museum, as donors, and Dr. Spyros I. Latsis and Dorothy, co. S. Latsis, as donors, with which the donors undertook the financing of the preparation of the necessary studies required for the full maturation of the highlighted architectural draft, which has been announced since February 15, 2023, in the presence of the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis. The donation from Spyros and Dorothy Latsis is made in memory of Ioannis and Erietta Latsis.

“With particular joy, the State today welcomes the kind donation of Spyros and Dorothy Latsis, amounting to up to 40,000,000 euros”, Kyriakos Mitsotakis said yesterday, among others, in the relevant announcement and emphasized that based on the kind donation the proposal of the award-winning architectural offices David Chipperfield Architects and Alexandros N. Tombazis and Associates Architects SA, which prevailed in the relevant international architectural competition, will be shaped into final studies, “so that, at the beginning of 2027, the project can start ». As Mr. Mitsotakis underlined, the donation initiative is also “a strong proof of the many things that our country can achieve when the public and private sectors work together for the collective good”. According to the subject of the contract, the studies will meet the specifications set by the Ministry of Culture for the preparation of the architectural draft, the requirements of the legislation for the content of the State studies, the rules of science and art and the best international practices .
