“Don’t come to give us lessons” –

The Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, in her reply to the Chamber in view of the next European Council responds to the controversy over the declarations of Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini on the Russian vote: “”I think that the thesis according to which the government’s position Italian in front of the world watching us is not clear on the subject of Ukraine. I think it is clear to everyone that today, thanks to the fact that there is a centre-right majority, Italy is a nation that respects its commitments and we cannot say whether it would be the same if the current government were opposition”, says the prime minister. “It seems to me that the problem for the Democratic Party is broader. The Democratic Party is ambiguous, first it abstains on Ukraine and then it explains to us what we must do. At least don’t come and explain to us what we have to do”, the prime minister said, adding: “I don’t have two faces when I’m in opposition and in government. I make decisions that I consider right: I have carried them forward from the opposition and I continue to do so also from the majority”, she underlined.

And again: “I am told to speak with Orban and Salvini to clarify support for Ukraine. In both cases, decisions and votes count. The Italian government has a clear position and in the EU” among other things “we have succeeded to ensure the revision of the multi-year budget that allows Ukraine to be supported for the next 4 years”, Meloni said. Next to her, during the reply, the place occupied by the Northern League deputy prime minister – present in the Chamber this morning – remained empty. “If you in the Democratic Party talk to your allies in the M5S maybe you can work a miracle and Ukraine will be grateful to you”, she added. “The votes say that we have managed, in the last two European Councils, both to advance Ukraine’s accession to the European Union and to guarantee a review of the multiannual budget that allows us to support Ukraine for the next 4 years “Meloni stated again.
