Cleaning the oven is one of the least tempting household chores. Yes, it’s tiring, hard and nasty, but a clean oven is essential to ensuring your kitchen runs smoothly.
Here are some signs that the oven needs cleaning.
1. If smoke is rising from the stove. Smoke in the kitchen isn’t a good sign, so if your appliances start getting rid of that pungent smell, you know it’s time to take action right away. Leftover food and grease can burn and emit smoke, which will not only spoil the taste of your food, but may also expose you to health risks.
2. If the soot is coming from your gas oven. Perhaps the most important sign to look for. Because soot from a gas furnace can indicate a carbon monoxide leak. Carbon monoxide is extremely dangerous, and it can have serious consequences. If you notice soot on your oven, be sure to contact a professional immediately to have it checked and cleaned.
3. If there is an unpleasant smell. Leftovers will generate smoke that will add a strong, bitter taste to your food as it cooks.
4. If you can’t see inside the oven. Hopefully you don’t get to that point. But if you can’t see the oven shelves through the food stains on the door, it’s clearly time to clean them up.
5. If it takes longer to heat up. An oven that needs to be cleaned may start to malfunction. If you notice that your device is taking a long time to heat up, this might be a clear sign that you need to clean it.
