Double murder in Vienna: The tip of the ORF employees

A 50-year-old man is suspected of killing a pharmacist and a young mother. Two employees of the ORF gave a clue to the perpetrator. They followed “a gut feeling”.

Two murders shake Vienna: On Monday, the Vienna police announced that a 50-year-old homeless Pole had been arrested, who is said to have killed both a 31-year-old mother of two on Sunday night and a former pharmacist on New Year’s Eve. The information came from the population, said the director general of the Vienna police Gerhard Pürstl, “in this case by journalists who contacted the police and gave very important information”. This is a reporter from ORF-Show “Vienna Today” and his cameraman.

The latter is not mentioned by name in the report. The ORF reporter Stephan Holzmeister himself described on Monday evening in “Vienna Today” how he and his colleague came to the conclusion: The two went to that family house in Floridsdorf for a shoot on Sunday evening (the murder became known shortly after 8 p.m.). , in which the young mother was murdered. There the two saw a man knocking on the door of the house. “Somehow strange”, Holzmeister described the situation. “What is a person doing in this house in the middle of the night?” He asked the man what he was looking for there, said Holzmeister.

The two ORF employees had a brief consultation, then followed “a gut feeling” and contacted the local police. “It’s better to do it once more than once too little,” the journalist thought. That same night, a man who fits the description of the two was picked up and there was a confrontation. “It was the same man,” says Holzmeister.

By evaluating the DNA traces, this could then be transferred. An interrogation of the suspect failed because he was so aggressive towards the police that the special unit Alone had to be requested.
