Doumbouya’s visit to the UN: The PEDN welcomes a “committed and direct” speech

The Party of Hope for National Development (PEDN) reacted to Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya’s speech delivered at the UN on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

If several political actors note shortcomings in this speech because it did not take into account the evolution of the transition, the spokesperson for the political party led by Lansana Kouyaté welcomes a direct and committed speech.

“What we must remember was a committed but also direct speech, because there was little diplomacy in the way he said it. All this provides information on the state of mind which characterized the reading of this speech,” reacted Mohamed Cissé.

On another level, the PEDN spokesperson says he recognizes himself in the approach of the Colonel who vigorously condemned the West’s view of democracy in Africa. Because for Mohamed Cissé, democracy, although universal, must retain its specific character.
“The condemnation of the West’s behavior in relation to democracy is a shared observation. Because we turn a blind eye when it suits us and we put pressure on what would not allow us to succeed in projects and others. But what is more important, we cannot say that the problem of governance in Guinea can be explained by democracy. We must work not only to strengthen the democratic system specified on our values. But we also need to strengthen the system of governance,” suggests this political actor.

According to Mohamed Cissé, Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya is not wrong when he asks ECOWAS not to get involved in politics. For his part, he believes that the sub-regional organization must rethink its strategy in order to face the reality of African people.

“We used to say that we had an ECOWAS which was essentially economic with an eye on politics, but today we have the impression that it is an ECOWAS which is political and which has an eye on politics. economy. But it has been more than a decade since we heard less about projects and infrastructures that could interconnect countries, even if the projects exist but we are much more focused on politics. But it is important that we take this aspect into account. The view of ECOWAS on politics can only be an indicator of the success of these economic programs, but it must not be a focus to the point of leaving the nationals of the sub-region because it is not an ECOWAS People. We cannot let the people face the Sahara and the sea for lack of integration initiatives which could keep our productive forces on site and be interested in political questions whose outcome brings nothing to the people. he pointed out.

Several observers denounce the fact that the Colonel did not raise the issue linked to the evolution of the transition timeline. On the subject, Mohamed Cissé maintains that the tenant of the palace Mohamed V wanted, through this approach, to highlight the sovereignty of his country which he has continued to defend since his accession to power.

“Someone who comes to claim the legitimacy of his actions is not going to lend himself to a reporting exercise on the management of his country. It’s a question of logical continuation,” said the PEDN spokesperson.
