Downhill Biker Injured in 30-Meter Fall
On Monday evening, a cyclist suffered multiple injuries after losing control of his bike and plummeting into a deep depression along the Plotier fence. The incident, which occurred shortly after 7 p.m., triggered a complex rescue effort involving Protier volunteer firefighters, police, and local paramedics.
Challenging Rescue Operation
Responding to the emergency call, two fire crews arrived at the scene to find the cyclist conscious but injured. “They found the cyclist conscious but with multiple injuries to his face and left wrist, as well as a few abrasions,” Protier Fire Chief Carlos Mancilla recalled. Due to the inaccessibility of the ravine, the team had to employ specialized equipment to extract the cyclist.
“He was placed on a hard board and we used a walking and rope transportation system to get him to the ambulance,” Mancilla detailed. After stabilizing his condition at the scene, paramedics transported the injured cyclist to Plottier Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Downhill Practice Ends in Mishap
According to preliminary reports, the cyclist was practicing his downhill biking skills when he lost control and careened into the steep ravine. “Mancilla explained that according to the first report, the man was practicing on his downhill bike when he suddenly lost control and fell into an inaccessible area.
Fortunately, Mancilla confirmed that the cyclist is out of immediate danger and his injuries were not life-threatening.
