The official campaign ends Monday evening. The Congolese elect their president, national and provincial deputies as well as municipal councilors. Nearly 44 million citizens are called to the polls. The “small” candidates also seek to find a place on the political scene where campaigns are law in the country. The outgoing president and candidate for his own succession, Felix Tshisekedi, emphasizes the flagship measure of his five-year term: free education.

Also in the news, in Guinea, at least thirteen people were killed and 178 injured in the fire that hit the center of Conakry, the Guinean capital, on Monday following the explosion of the country’s main fuel depot, which brought the city to a standstill and caused significant material damage.

Finally, in Chad, Chadians voted on Sunday without incident for or once morest a new Constitution supposed to pave the way for elections and a return of civilians to power, promised two and a half years ago by the military junta but postponed until the end of 2024 .
