Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The “Dragon” spacecraft, which includes the “Crew 6” crew, which includes Emirati astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi, landed on Earth on Monday morning, according to a video clip published by the official Emirates News Agency (WAM).

The crew includes 4 astronauts who performed a scientific mission at the International Space Station for a period of 6 months before returning to Earth and landing their spacecraft in the US state of Florida.

The spacecraft separated from the International Space Station earlier Sunday before reentering the atmosphere Monday, according to WAM.

The crew spent the day aboard the 13-foot-wide Crew Dragon as it moved through Earth’s orbit toward the target landing site off the coast of Jacksonville, Florida, where they landed.

The Crew Dragon capsule had traveled at more than 17,000 miles per hour (27,000 kilometers per hour), and when it began the final stage of its descent, the spacecraft’s outside temperature rose to about 3,500 degrees Fahrenheit (1,900 degrees Celsius) while it cut back. The other is in the thickest part of the Earth’s atmosphere.

Inside the spacecraft cabin, passengers were protected by heat shields and had to be kept at comfortable temperatures well below 100 degrees Fahrenheit (37.8 degrees Celsius).

Then the capsule released a set of parachutes to slow its descent further. The rescue crew waited near the landing site, standing by to pull the spacecraft from the ocean to a special boat, called the “Dragon’s Nest,” where the last safety checks will be made before the crew can disembark.

Before the astronauts left the space station, NASA said it was monitoring the impact of Hurricane “Idalia”, which struck Wednesday morning on the Florida Gulf Coast. The storm hit northern Florida before entering southern Georgia and entering the Carolinas.

The crew includes the four astronauts that make up Crew-6: NASA astronauts Stephen Bowen, Warren, and Woody Hoburg, as well as Sultan Alneyadi, the second astronaut from the United Arab Emirates to travel to space, and Russian cosmonaut Andrey Vidyev.

The crew spent six months aboard the orbiting laboratory after launching its mission to the station last March. Over the past week, crew astronauts have worked to greet and hand over operations to members of Crew 7, who arrived at the space station on Aug. 27.

During their time in space, the Crew 6 astronauts were scheduled to oversee more than 200 science and technology projects.
