Canadian rapper Drake has surprised his followers with the announcement that he will retire from the stage for at least a year to address a health problem that has affected him for some years.

“I probably won’t be doing music for a while. I need to focus on my health, first and foremost, and I’ll talk about that soon,” the singer said during his SiriusXM show, “Table for One.”

The award-winning artist also indicated that he has been “having the craziest problems with his stomach for years. I’m just saying what it is.”

“So I need to focus on my health and I need to do it well, and I’m going to do it. I have many other things that I would love to focus on,” the artist, who did not give further details about his illness, told his audience.

He also told them in his surprise announcement that “I will lock the studio door for a moment. I don’t even know (how long). Maybe a year or so, maybe a little more.”

The singer’s announcement comes at a time when his eighth album “For All The Dogs” was released, which contains 23 songs that he performs alongside guest artists such as Bad Bunny, Sza, 21 Savage, Chief Kee and Sexxy Red, among others.

Also after last Thursday he introduced his 5-year-old son Adonis in the video for his new song “8AM in Charlotte”, the second single from Drake’s eighth studio album, who bought Tupac’s ring last July Shakur sold at auction for more than a million dollars.
