The vacation of a Belgian septuagenarian turned into drama on Sunday evening. While the 78-year-old tourist was on her way to join her son at a restaurant in the village of Corniglia, in Italy’s Cinque Terre, she suddenly collapsed in the street. Witnesses to the fall tried to help the poor lady, including calling for help.

However, the onlookers first tried to contact the city’s medical services, which might not be reached, and it was only later that 118 (emergency) was called. Unfortunately, the emergency services were unable to do anything to save the Belgian tourist, despite resuscitation attempts. Two hours following their arrival, the victim’s body was taken to the morgue of a hospital in the region.
