Ukrainian forces launched a drone strike against an industrial zone on Russian territory in the Republic of Tatarstan, more than 1,100 kilometers from Russia’s border with Ukraine.
According to sources in Kiev, the target was an assembly plant for Iranian Shahid type drones, used by the Russian army, and as a result of the attack significant damage was caused to the facilities.
A drone was neutralized as it was preparing to launch an attack on a refinery in the city of Nizhnekamsk, in the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia’s TASS news agency reported, citing the city’s mayor. According to him, there are no casualties or damage.
Panicked workers fled as a massive inferno engulfed the factory near Yelabuga, at least 660 miles from the nearest Ukrainian territory.
Several people were injured in the attack.
Readovka said: “It is too early to conclude whether the suicide pilot was alive at the wheel or whether the aircraft was being controlled by an autopilot.”
“A drone attack was launched this morning against Tatarstan factories located in the cities of Yelabuga and Nizhnekamsk,” the press office of the head of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minikhanov said earlier in a statement on Telegram.
