DRC: Travelers leaving for central Kongo deplore traffic jams on the RN1

Kinshasa, March 1, 2024: The problem of traffic jams is becoming a headache for travelers leaving for central Kongo.

“Driving alone is not enough because they are sometimes incapable of regulating traffic jams on National Road number 1. We ask that General Blaise Kilimbambalimba, number 1 of the City of Kinshasa police, take charge of the situation. This will be a relief for us,” complains a traveler found in an agency in Matadi Kibala. Another traveler expressed himself in this sense to add to the words of the previous one by saying.

“I straddle central Kongo and Kinshasa because of my work. This problem makes the situation very complicated, we leave late to arrive at our destination late and this affects my work”said another traveler.

It’s up to him to add: “There is a road that goes from Kasangulu to Nd’jili Brasserie and another road that goes from Kingatoko to the Cité verte. The government can rehabilitate these roads to relieve traffic congestion.”

A situation which leads to confusion regarding departure and arrival times; and even for the reimbursement of ticket costs, this poses a problem.

“I had an emergency last Monday to go to Moanda, unfortunately my trip did not take place and since Monday, I have been asking for my money to be refunded. Unfortunately, so far they have turned a deaf ear and I am not the only one,” explained a lady found in one of these agencies.

The travelers’ ordeal

Some buses stop at Kasangulu to disembark travelers who take motorbikes and taxis to Matadi Kibala and from there, they board new buses to arrive at Limete where the journey ends. It also causes unimaginable disruption, according to some travelers.

The railway is strongly desired because taking the road becomes an unimaginable ordeal for the traffic of several road users.
