The Democratic Republic of Congo remains one of the African countries with several cases of patients suffering from malaria. To find an answer to this disease, like other countries on the African continent, the DRC has continued to show interest in recent days in the validated and recommended anti-malaria vaccines called RTS, S/AS01 and R21 Matrix-M. by the WHO since October 2, 2023.

In their communication of February 23, 2014 relating to the position of the DRC regarding the introduction of these vaccines on its territory, the Vaccine Alliance (GAVI), the WHO as well as the partners, indicated that the Republic Democratic Republic of Congo wishes to learn lessons (among others the reactions and results of vaccines against malaria, Editor’s note) from pilot countries to proceed with the successful introduction of vaccines against malaria across the extent of its territory.

“WHO, Gavi and its partners support eligible countries in putting in place comprehensive preparations for the introduction of the malaria vaccine in their countries. The DRC wants to learn from the pilot countries to ensure a successful introduction on its territory,” specify the organizations.

A few days ago, a delegation made up of a medical team from the DRC participated in vaccination against malaria in communities in Ghana during the last experimental workshop on these vaccines.

Initially, the Ministry of Health and certain pro-health organizations working in the country were supportive of the use of said vaccines initially available for children.
