Lead with dark synths DREAM PENANCE their third album “Nature Morte” before piling up dense guitar walls with their fast, atmospheric Black Metal, as you already know from the two previous albums.

The band, which has been six members since the last album, maintains their previous style, but you can tell from the first listen that the songwriting is more variable than before and small details are constantly being incorporated into the dense sound that stand out. While the first two pieces, “Désir” and “Les mammonites” are characterized by high tempo, the title track is initially a little quieter and more playful. The song builds up slowly and then picks up the pace in the middle part, spoken passages create additional atmosphere.

The instrumental “Lama Sabachthani” lets you take a quick breather before stepping on the accelerator „I See Satan Fall Like Lightning” is passed through again. Despite the high tempo, the number is more playful and has more songwriting variety than the first two pieces and also has some post black metal influences. “Pharmakos” oscillates between slow doom passages and raging black metal; the song is also very complex and varied. The album ultimately sounds doomy and slow with quiet, playful passages:The Undifferentiated” aus.

PÉNITENCE ONIRIQUE have been able to improve with every album so far and “Nature Morte” is no exception. The intense, atmospheric Black Metal from the French is convincing across the board. It will be interesting to see where the French journey leads.
