LaBrie, speaking with Belgian Jasper, illuminated the boundless creative freedom that defines progressive music: “When you’re a progressive band, you have the freedom of going anywhere you wanna go musically. There’s no constraints. You can bust open whatever the hell you want that will support what you feel is exactly your goal or where you wanna go musically at that particular moment.”

After a 14-year hiatus, legendary progressive rock band Dream Theater has reunited with founding drummer Mike portnoy for its 40th-anniversary tour.

The North American leg of the tour kicked off on February 7, 2025, at The Met in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The band, featuring James LaBrie, John Myung, John Petrucci, Jordan Rudess, and the returning Mike portnoy, will continue its journey across the continent until it concludes in New York City on March 22, 2025.
A New Dawn: “Parasomnia”
The tour coincides with the release of Dream Theater’s sixteenth studio album, “Parasomnia,” which dropped on February 7, 2025, via insideout Music.This marks the group’s first studio offering with Portnoy as 2009’s “Black Clouds & Silver Linings.”
“Parasomnia” was produced by Petrucci, engineered by James “Jimmy T” Meslin, and mixed by Andy Sneap. Hugh Syme, a longtime collaborator, once again provided the album’s artwork.
A Legacy Restored
Portnoy’s return to Dream Theater marks a critically important moment for the band and its devoted fanbase. He co-founded the group in 1985 with Petrucci and Myung.
