Dresden – The re-elected Mayor Dirk Hilbert (50, FDP) celebrated his election victory at a big party in the Elbhang-Schloss Eckberg. He won 44 districts, his green challenger only 17.
But the election victory was overshadowed by the apathy of non-voters – 253,376 eligible voters in Dresden did not cast their votes.
Hilbert’s wife Su Yeon (41, opera singer) wiped her tears of joy from her face at the election party, son Lucas (12) beamed.
According to the Ministry of the Interior, Hilbert can count on a hefty salary increase: “Since Mr. Hilbert’s term of office has now exceeded seven years, his office as Lord Mayor of Dresden will be assigned to the next highest salary group – i.e. B10,” it says here.
Instead of 12,061.37 euros / month, this is now 14,197.53 euros per month. Makes almost 1.2 million euros in the next seven years in office.
Only a lawsuit pending before the administrative court in Dresden regarding Hilbert’s election line-up can cloud the election victory. But the process is not yet over.
First of all, the Hilbert family is going on vacation to Portugal. Yeon Hilbert to BILD: “We are planning a big round trip and then a 250-kilometer pilgrimage on the Way of St. James to Santiago de Compostela.”
