The Las Tunas stream overflowed and swept away the driver of a Fiat Palio who was trying to cross it on Eslovenia street, one of the accesses to San Benito. The attempt resulted in a dangerous outcome, leaving the driver trapped inside the vehicle, who was later able to get out and took shelter in a tree.

The news of the incident generated despair among the relatives who approached the place, concerned about the situation in which the driver was. Meanwhile, the young man who had taken refuge in a tree made light signals with his cell phone flashlight, seeking to indicate that he was okay.

At the scene, the San Benito Volunteer Firefighters and the Zapadores Firefighters acted, who acted quickly to rescue the man.

Once rescued, the driver was able to relate the desperate situation to Elonce: “My car stopped and I went with the current. I’m from San Benito, but I rarely take this road. I chose it because it seemed better and, due to the rain, I didn’t see that the current was so strong”, he recounted.

Furthermore, he added: “My car sank and I tried to open the door, but I couldn’t. In my desperation, I broke the glass to get out and got on top of the car. When the car completely sank, I managed to grab onto a log. I called my wife to contact the fire department and the police.”

In this sense, traffic was restricted in Slovenia street, specifically at the entrance to San Benito and the continuation of Newbery street. This measure is due to the presence of a large volume of water, a consequence of the heavy rainfall that has been recorded.
