Drug addiction among students: Government with action plan

Thiruvananthapuram: The government has come up with an action plan to prevent the spread of drug addiction among students. Committees will be formed from state level to school level. A massive campaign will begin from October 2.

Crucial decisions were taken in the meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to discuss further steps to prevent drug use and spread among students. Committees will be formed at the state level, district, local self-government and school levels. At the state level, the chief secretary will coordinate the activities of the committee, whose members include the chief minister, ministers and chief secretary.

A district level committee will be formed with the president of the district panchayat as the chairman and the district collector as the convener. The Local Self-Government Heads are the Chairpersons and the Police and Excise Officers are the Convenors. The Chief Minister directed that panchayat, ward and school level committees should be formed by September 28.

Anti-drug chain will be created in all schools on November 1 with the participation of maximum number of parents and alumni. Intoxicants will be symbolically burnt on that day. It has also been decided to organize public vigils at bus stands, railway stations, libraries and clubs where there are crowds.
