Drug Smuggling Foiled in Saudi Arabia: Latest News and Updates

RIYADH: The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority foiled attempts to smuggle drugs through Jeddah and Riyadh airports in Saudi Arabia. Two passengers tried to smuggle 1.33 kg of heroin in capsule form.

Drug collection was found in their bodies when they were subjected to X-ray examination due to suspicion. The Zakat, Tax and Anda Customs Authority informed that the person who came to Saudi Arabia to receive the drugs was arrested in coordination with the General Directorate of Narcotics Control. In another incident, border security forces foiled an attempt to smuggle drugs through Azir province. Army seized 51,000 drug pills that were trying to be smuggled through Al-Rabuah sector border in Asir province. Drug traffickers could not be arrested.

Extensive testing continues; 15,000 expatriates arrested in a week

RIYADH: The Saudi Ministry of Interior has announced that 15,000 more violators have been arrested for violating residence, employment and border security regulations. During a week, so many people were arrested during a joint investigation by various security departments.
9,200 people have been arrested for violating residence rules, 4,200 people for violating border security rules, and 1,600 people for violating labor laws. 527 people were arrested while trying to cross the border into the country. Of these, 55 percent are Yemenis, 43 percent are Ethiopians, and 2 percent are from other countries. 66 lawbreakers were caught trying to leave Saudi Arabia.

14 people have been arrested for smuggling, harboring and abetting violators of residence and labor regulations. A total of about 44,000 violators are currently being prosecuted for violating the rules. Of those apprehended, 39,000 violators were referred to their respective countries’ embassies for rectification of travel documents and deportation. 1,700 violators were recommended to complete their travel reservations. Around 8,000 violators have already been deported.

Those who provide transport and accommodation facilities to such labor, residence and border violators in Saudi Arabia have also been warned of severe punishment. Up to 15 years in prison and a maximum fine of 10 lakh Riyals is the punishment if caught in this way. Besides, the Ministry of Home Affairs has also warned that vehicles and residential buildings will be confiscated.
