DUBAI: A fine of Dh53.9 crore was imposed in Dubai last year on those driving over the speed limit. In 2022, Dubai Police reported 24,837 vehicles for speeding. Among them, 4,322 people were driving at an excess speed of 80 kilometers per hour. Among these, those driving at the highest speed were fined 3000 dirhams and 23 black points were recorded on their license. The Dubai Police stated that the vehicle has been impounded for 60 days.

Exceeding the speed limit is one of the most serious violations. Dubai Police General Director of Traffic, Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, said that excessive speed can cause serious accidents.

He said the speed limit was fixed following meticulous studies taking into account several factors including traffic density and road conditions.
