The former TF1 journalist has just released a novel (2026, the year when football will become American) which combines real facts and fiction on the world of football. To promote it, some of his friends, well known to the general public, wet the jersey.
It’s hard to dream of a better promotion. And above all such a casting. For several days, Christian Jeanpierre, former commentator for the Blues on TF1, has presented his novel “2026, the year when football will become American” through a somewhat new promotional campaign. On his Instagram account, the 55-year-old journalist features, through short video clips, some of his friends such as actor Jean Dujardin, Arsène Wenger or even Kylian Mbappé, with an identical question: “And you, you will be where in 2026? ” In reference to his latest work, a thriller around the world of football with the backdrop of the World Cup scheduled in the United States (but also in Canada and Mexico) in just over 5 years.
“It’s a pretty light and funny way of promoting the book through people I like. I joke with Kylian (Mbappé) when I ask him where he will be in 2026, but I have already told him that he will be one of the stars of this World Cup with the France team. He will be 28 years old, he will no longer be a kid. ”
“It’s a rather light and funny way of highlighting the book through people I appreciate,” says Christian Jeanpierre, who is also finalizing a documentary on Motherfuckers and continues the one around the “Invincibles” of Arsenal (England champion in 2003-2004 without having lost a single Premier League match) in collaboration with Amazon UK. I joke with Kylian (Mbappé) when I ask him where he will be in 2026, but I have already told him that he will be one of the stars of this World Cup with the France team. He will be 28 years old, he will no longer be a kid. ”
On the idea of the book, published online during the first confinement and now printed by Solar editions, the former commentator of the Blues of football and rugby for TF1 reveals the genesis of this project. “This book was born during a recent trip to the United States. At least the idea. I covered the 1994 World Cup there and I found, at that time, even though the stadiums were full, that the Americans didn’t give a damn about football. On my last trip, I saw soccer cages on all US soccer fields, I saw soccer ads (name given by the Americans to evoke soccer) on TV, in airports, this sport is on the rise there. You have to put it in people’s heads, the Americans will organize the 2026 World Cup with Canada and Mexico, I told myself that there was a story to tell. That of a gifted kid, ousted from US football, who would make his way in soccer to become an American Kylian Mbappé. In the midst of it all, I wanted to add as a backdrop a merciless war between the NFL and soccer. I stop there, otherwise I will reveal the whole novel. “
