Around 11:15 p.m. on Saturday evening, the police were called to the E19 motorway towards Antwerp by several motorists claiming to be victims of an accident with a red Volkswagen Caddy. The police set out and chased the driver of the VW, before finding it on the roof near Schoten, approximately 30km further from the scene of the first collision, in Meer according to The last news.
In total, five motorists reported having been hit by the driver, of Dutch origin and suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol. He was seriously injured in the rollovers at the end of his run, and transported to hospital. A sixth car was also affected in this latest accident. Fortunately, no casualties were reported among the motorists hit.
The highway had to be closed for some time, before reopening overnight.
