Shock in the Dutch football league!
During his team NEC Nijmegen’s game at AZ Alkmaar, striker Bas Dost (34) collapsed and had to be treated for minutes before he regained consciousness.
The shocking scenes take place shortly before the final whistle. With the score 2-1 for Dost’s club Nijmegen, the striker runs back in the 90th minute because of an attack from Alkmaar. Suddenly he collapses without any influence from the opponent and remains lying in the center circle. The game initially even continues for a few seconds.
Before his collapse, Dost was allowed to celebrate. The ex-Frankfurter scored the 1-0 in Alkmaar for Nijmegen and prepared the 2-0

But when the referee notices that Dost is on the ground, he immediately stops the game and supervisors run onto the field at full speed to treat Dost. They have a defibrillator with them. It initially remained unclear whether this was used.

After a few minutes it follows loudly “The Telegraph” the relief: Dost reportedly regains consciousness. He is then carried off the field. Both fan camps sing for the striker, and Dost is said to have even briefly raised his arms.
Nijmegen director Wilco van Schaik to ESPN: “Nobody here knew what happened until referee Jeroen Manschot said there was a sign of life and Bas was alive again. I think Bas was lucky that the medical team arrived so quickly.”

According to the host Alkmaars, Dost is now accessible again. Alkmaar wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “Bas Dost is fortunately conscious. I wish you much recovery and strength, Bas.”
According to Telegraaf, Dost even talks to his teammates in the stadium. Van Schaik: “Fortunately, we in the Netherlands are well prepared for such situations. This saves lives.”

Dost finally spoke up via Nijmegen’s X profile: “I’m fine. The help I received on site was fantastic. I’m in the hospital now and doing well. Thanks for all the support!”
According to the Telegraaf, Dost was briefly treated for his left arm before his collapse.
Dost also stormed in the Bundesliga, namely for Wolfsburg from 2012 to 2016 and for Eintracht Frankfurt from 2019 to 2021.
