Developed over six years by 661 engineers, it uses a targeted jet of mouthwash to eliminate dental plaque in hard-to-reach interdental spaces.
Engineering the CameraJet: Hardware and Machine Learning Architecture
The British technology firm best known for cordless vacuums and air purifiers has spent six years bringing its proprietary engineering approach to oral hygiene. According to reporting from Journal du Geek, the CameraJet relies on 16 million lines of code and an automated learning system trained on more than 470,000 dental images. Under the hood, a macro camera integrated directly into the brush head captures the interior of the user’s mouth at a rate of 28 frames per second.
To illuminate the oral cavity effectively for the microscopic camera, the device incorporates a stroboscope operating at 257 Hz, synchronizing flashes with video capture. The brush head executes movements, combining dual-row bristles with an integrated sonic damper designed to reduce operational noise. Furthermore, each replacement head utilizes an embedded RFID chip to monitor usage cycles and notify users when a swap is necessary.
Optical Targeting and the Replacement of Traditional Flossing
The core innovation of the device lies in its “Gap Optical Targeting” system. When the onboard algorithm detects an interdental space in real-time footage, the device fires a conical jet of liquid within 100 milliseconds. This mechanism is engineered to displace plaque automatically during brushing, functioning as an integrated alternative to traditional dental floss.
The handle features a pressurized reservoir holding 12.5 milliliters of fluid—roughly two teaspoons—designed to deliver the mouthwash regardless of the device’s physical orientation. Users can fill the reservoir with transparent, non-foaming mouthwashes or choose from proprietary formulations offered by the manufacturer in two distinct flavor profiles: Mint Ginger and Green Mint. According to manufacturer claims cited by Journal du Geek, the system achieves plaque removal superior to a manual toothbrush and yields up to 13 times better gum health.
The resulting conical spray profile aims to cover a wider surface area while exerting lower pressure on the enamel and gums.
Connectivity, Ecosystem Integration, and Privacy Controls
The CameraJet operates within a connected ecosystem that links via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to the MyDyson mobile application. The app offers live visualization of the interior of the mouth, maps forgotten zones, and provides real-time feedback on brushing technique. To mitigate consumer privacy concerns regarding in-mouth video capture, Dyson explicitly states that no images are recorded or stored locally on the device or transmitted to cloud servers.
The hardware package launches in two colorways—Ceramic Ultra Blue and Ceramic Pink—bundled with a 3-in-1 docking station capable of recharging the unit and refilling the internal water reservoir in three seconds. Additional accessories include a charging cable, two standard brush heads, and a travel case.

Priced at €479 in Europe and $499 in the United States, the CameraJet commands a substantial premium over high-end sonic toothbrushes from competitors like Philips and Oral-B, exceeding their pricing by roughly $100 while absorbing the functionality of an independent oral irrigator.
