Ischgl As in the previous year, it rained countless gold, silver and bronze medals for everyone at the E-Bike World Championships in Ischgl. At the highlight of this year’s e-bike season, 1,317 participants reported and cycled for every second. Jaro Mician from Slovakia secured victory in the Elite category for men, while Barbara Oberdorfer from Italy was successful for women. 701 amateur world champions were allowed to celebrate at the end. Save the Date: The E-Bike World Championships 2024 will take place from September 5th to 7th.

Pure sun, a good atmosphere and unbelievable commitment from the 1,317 registered participants at this year’s E-Bike World Championships for Everyone: As in previous years, the towns of Ischgl and Galtür brought everything with them to be prepared for a record crowd in two categories, Elite and Everyone be.

While in the amateur class three time limits had to be undercut in order to secure a medal at the end, the motto for the participants in the elite class was: Whoever crosses the finish line first is world champion. This year Jaro Mician from Slovakia mastered the extremely demanding 36 kilometers with a difference in altitude of 1200 meters the fastest. This route was characterized by narrow, technically demanding uphill and downhill passages and various obstacles. Jaro Mician prevailed with a time of 1:20:06.1 ahead of Roland Ranftl from Austria and Adrian Horchler from Germany and can now call himself the E-Bike World Champion. The women’s victory went to Barbara Oberdorfer from Italy. She won with a time of 1:27:12.3 ahead of Tina Schirmaier from Germany and Renate Peer from Ischgl. The main prize in the raffle this year was a Simplon e-bike worth 8,000 euros. At the e-bike fox hunt on Thursday, a total of 15 women competed against ÖSV “fox” Teresa Stadlober and 62 men against ÖSV “fox” Mika Vermeulen.

Hundreds of medals for the Jedermann participants

A veritable flood of world champions had to be crowned in the amateur category again this year. A total of 1,055 e-bikers registered for the amateur route, and in the end 92 of them were able to celebrate a gold medal. A further 258 won silver on the 26-kilometer route, while 351 were rewarded with bronze.

records and satisfaction

Overall, the participants came from over 25 nations. In addition to Austria and Germany, there were also participants from Lithuania, Eritrea and the United States. The diversity was also reflected in the age of the starters. While the youngest took to the track at the age of 10, the oldest participant was a proud 82 years old.

The icing on the cake was the Guinness World Record with the award as the largest e-bike race in the world. The organizers are also very happy about a successful event: “World Federation (EBWF)">So many active participants of every generation with an age from ten to over 80 years, from near and far, to inspire amateur and professional athletes for the trend sport e-bike, to share fun and joy together and to celebrate this with a Guinness World Record, is outstanding“, shows DDr. Markus Mitterdorfer, from the Presidium of the E-Bike World Federation (EBWF), extremely satisfied. And the Paznaun – Ischgl Tourist Association, which is responsible, is also enthusiastic about the renewed staging in Ischgl: “The E-Bike World Championships 2023 offered both the participants and the spectators along the route an exciting racing spectacle in the midst of the Paznaun mountain scenery. The record number of participants in what is now the third edition also confirms that this trend sport fits perfectly with the range of offers in our region“, is glad Alexander von der ThannenChairman TVB Paznaun — Ischgl.

All about the E-Bike World Championship

There was also a lot going on in Ischgl this weekend apart from the race. An extensive e-bike EXPO, live music by FOLKSHILFE and Jacob Koopman, among others, and many other items in the supporting program ensured a good mood and a lot of variety, such as the sun.downer after the e-bike fox hunt on the Idalp at over 2,300 meters above sea level with chilled Beats and breathtaking panorama.

Already looking forward to next year

While participants will remember the latest edition for a long time to come, the EBWF is already looking ahead and is aiming for a new record number of participants. A Storck e-bike worth 7,500 euros will be raffled off among the first 333 registrations for the E-Bike World Championships for Everyone 2024 from September 5th to 7th.
