Zwickau – Several companies in Zwickau are giving used batteries from electric cars a second life and have presented a new mobile storage system for this purpose.
It could have capacities from 200 kilowatt hours to 2.5 megawatt hours, it said at the presentation.
The lithium-ion batteries used came from from electric vehicles and would be delivered by Mercedes-Benz Energy in Kamenz.
The idea: old batteries from electric cars can still store electricity after they have been used in the vehicle – an important buffer for wind and solar power.
