EA has agreed to the name change

Last year, a few days after the release of FIFA 22, we learned that Electronic Arts was seriously considering parting ways with FIFA and change the name of his famous football game. A decision that seemed to have been taken after many disagreements (including financial) with the International Federation of Football Association.

An announcement that had then made a lot of noise with worried players, who did not want to lose what made the charm of FIFA: its generous content and its official licenses. Electronic Arts did not take long to react and reassure everyone by indicating that the objective was just change the namenothing more.

However, after the first waves in October 2021, the rumors around the name change died down leaving us to think that Electronic Arts had changed its mind. In reality, not really, the American publisher has just given the green light for the change of title of its emblematic football game.

This is EA Sports Football Club

“EA Sports Football Club, EA Sports FC, that’s the name of the game.” This is the statement of journalist Jeff Grubb who said on his premium show Grubbsnax that the American publisher had given the green light to change the name of its legendary FIFA license.

I saw trademarks for it, I thought it might just be a feature like an online mode, I asked about it, that’s it, that’s the name […] They are ready to move on […] We should hear about it here very soon.

Usually, FIFA games are announced in June or July during EA Play. This year, Electronic Arts will not offer a new edition of EA Play and could therefore reveal very soon (from April?) its next EA Sports Football Club.

However, according to VGC’s sources, Electronic Arts have been lobbying the International Football Federation to name their next game FIFA 23 whose rights expire in November just before the World Cup in Qatar. It is from next year that the game should bear the name EA Sports Football Club.

Case to follow therefore, one thing is certain, the days of the FIFA license at EA Sports are now numbered.
