Mustafa Avci can thank life twice: The man was killed on Friday morning – 261 hours after the earthquake in Turkey and Syria. alive from the rubble fetched. In her arms she held Mustafa’s next big fortune: his eleven-day-old daughter Almile, whom he met for the first time. Pictures from a hospital in Antakya, Hatay province, show Mustafa kissing his little one’s head while attached to multiple tubes in a hospital bed.
Mustafa Avci was rescued along with 26-year-old Mehmet Ali Sakiroglu. The two men were in a health center when the building collapsed on February 6. Shortly after his rescue, a rescuer held his cellphone to Mustafa’s ear. “Fahri, how are you?” the rescued says to a relative. “Brother, where are you?” answers Fahri crying. “I’m doing well. I think I’m at the training and research hospital. What are my parents doing? Have they all been saved?” Mustafa asks. Fahri gives him the good news: “They are fine. They’re waiting for you,” he replies.

Neslihan survived – husband and children are still missing
Several small miracles have been reported in Turkey in the last few hours. Rescue workers in the completely destroyed city of Antakya were also able to pull 14-year-old Osman alive from a destroyed building. The teenager had survived 260 hours under the rubble. In the same building, rescuers recovered 17 bodies.
In the city of Kahramanmaras, helpers rescued 29-year-old Neslihan Kilic on Thursday evening. The mother of two was trapped for 258 hours. Rescuers had been lifting debris and furniture with a forklift when they noticed the woman’s hand moving on a bed, the DHA news agency reported. Neslihan’s husband and their children are still missing.
Hakan Yasinoglu was rescued alive 278 hours after the disaster. The 45-year-old was pulled from a mountain of rubble, as can be seen in a video shared by Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu on online networks.
Since the earthquake measuring 7.8 on Monday last week, the death toll in Turkey and neighboring Syria has risen to over 41,000. According to Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay, rescue work is ongoing at around 200 locations in the region.
